Our present life

We are currently living in Manteca, California away from the cold winters of Chicago. We moved to California almost 4 years ago and started this blog in an attempt to keep in touch with our family and friends in Chicago or elsewhere. We miss everyone from the midwest but we love those who have become part of our life in California. Kevin is a teacher at Ripon Christian High. He also coaches girls volleyball and soccer and stays busy playing the sports he loves as well. Janey is a nurse 2 days a week and a mom the rest. She works at DMC on the pediatrics floor. Mason (5) and Talen (2) are growing daily and loving life! Enjoy our blog and follow us if you like!

The first of our adventures in June....

The month of June started off for us with a fun trip to Tahoe.  My awesome parents along with their friends and my uncle and aunt invited us up to a cabin they rented in south shore Lake Tahoe.  We enjoyed some hiking, beautiful weather, a bike ride and a little golfing.  We even got to dip our toes in the water - this was pretty short lived since it had just snowed the weekend before, brrrr!  Here's a few pics of our trip to beautiful Tahoe.

The big boys got to go golfing with Kevin and my Uncle Cliff one day.

Doing some hiking near fallen leaf lake.  It looks more dangerous than it really is:)

On our bike ride. We rented the trailer which was a great move. Talen had a blast riding in there.

Talen

We have had a very busy and fun month and I have lots to blog about, but before I write about any of that I have to talk about some very exciting news from Talen's doctor.  At our last visit Dr. James told us that his scarring has matured and he does not have to wear his glove any more!!!  As most of you probably know, Talen had his surgery on his middle fingers the day after his 1st birthday.  Since then he developed a lot of scarring with the skin grafts and we've been trying to manage it with massage, pressure gloves, and even a steroid injection.  He's worn his glove 23hours a day for about a year and a half now.  It's become a big part of his and our life. We thank God often for the GREAT care we have recieved at Shriner's and for the awesome surgeons he provided for Talen.

God has taught us a lot with this little obstacle.  We have been reminded of the verse "I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made...my frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret." - Psalm 139. God created every part of us down to our fingertips and toes.  He made Talen this way for a reason. Each child is a miracle and we are so blessed to have Talen in our lives.  Second, I am continually reminded each time we visit Shriner's how small our problems are.  As I see children with major burns over their entire body, numerous disabilities, and problems much larger than Talen's, I know we are incredibly blessed to have such a healthy child.  And finally, God has also taught us to rely on him.  He has provided for every penny of Talen's medical costs.  We also could not have asked for a better surgeon.

Of course, Talen has not known anything different than wearing his glove. It has become a part of him. He's come acustom to us putting on his glove every day.  And even though the doctor has given us the ok to ditch the glove, he has actually asked to wear it tonight while he sleeps:) I'm so proud of you Talen for doing such a great job through the surgeries and doctor's visits. We love you!
